What a beautiful hammock!
“What a beautiful hammock!” That’s what my four year old daughter exclaimed all of a sudden as we were walking through our local garden center yesterday. But I have seen and enjoyed hammocks so many times in my life that I didn’t really pay that much attention. Yet she made me look so I turned into the direction she was facing and there it was. I burst into laughter at her excitement over what I thought was just a simple hammock. Sure enough it was a very beautiful hammock indeed nevertheless… it was just a simple hammock! There were a few more set up and, admittedly, they all looked so appealing and so inviting, however this hammock really stood out. With its bright colors and striped pattern this fabric hammock sure grabbed my little ones attention!
So then I made an effort to see that hanging hammock through her eyes… through the eyes of a child who is fully living each moment and really appreciating what it has to offer. But I didn’t get a chance as she asked me to lift her up and sit her in it. Happily I obliged. What I saw next really moved me and made me think of hammocks in a totally different way. The joy in her eyes, the laughter in her voice when she sank into its comfortable embrace while her little hands firmly gripped on each side of the hammock (well, she did feel a little insecure)… it really moved me. She looked so tiny in the center of this huge hammock. So vulnerable that it really touched me. Her head was still lifted toward me, but when I rocked her gently she completely relaxed and abandoned herself to the soothing rocking motion of this beautiful hammock. She was one with the motion of this stunning cotton hammock with its superbly combined colors. And she closed her eyes while her lips smiled. And I wished I had a camera to capture that moment.
It was so sweet watching my child rocking away in sheer delight in this hammock that would literally put a smile on anyone’s face. And that’s what I love about them. Personally I don’t own one (yet) as my space both indoors and out is a little limited for this kind of hanging hammock on a stand. However, especially after seeing how much my daughter loved it, it is on top of my list for when we move into our new home.
Hammocks for me are the epitome of fun and relaxation. As a child I remember going to my neighbour’s, an elderly lady who had one hanging between two trees for when the street’s children (like myself) came by to visit her. Oh the fun! We would lie there for hours under the trees, listening to the birds chirping away while she offered us chips and refreshments. What more could you ask for? As an adult as well I get infinite joy and pleasure lying on a hammock and abandoning myself to the soothing rocking movement and relaxation hammocks are known for. But I do try to stay away from those chips…
So child or adult makes no difference when choosing to rest in the sheer comfort of a hammock. Equally wonderful for the indoors and outdoors you and your family will absolutely love a hammock in your home. In the meantime, I think we will be visiting that garden center a bit more frequently…

Fabric Upholstered Club Chairs
Club chairs are the most beautiful and comfortable chairs to proudly have in your office or home. My mother-in-law swears by them. She has two absolutely gorgeous fabric upholstered club chairs smack in the centre of her living room and they are truly a welcoming retreat everytime we visit. In the last six months she decided she wanted to replace the two-seater sofa she had in her living room with two individual club chairs to give a more relaxed look and the opportunity to be able to sit by yourself while enjoying a good book.
At first I thought that two club chairs in a relatively small space as hers would be too much. And later, when I heard of the color choices I was a little startled to say the least… I thought it just wasn’t going to work. But I quickly changed my mind when I saw the result. What she did is she kept her bright red three-seater sofa against the longest wall of her living room. Facing that is her rustic coffee table and to the left of it she has placed the larger, beige fabric upholstered club chair while a smaller dark blue one is to the right.
These three pieces, the two soft and inviting upholstered fabric club chairs along with the sofa, give such a warm appeal to the room that really makes you feel welcome and part of the whole. So basically she has three different colors in her living room, all of them demanding attention in their own way! And although, like me, you might be thinking that is too much I have to tell you that the combination of these three colors is AMAZING! And with the use of complementing cushions and a chashmere throw-rug on the sofa she has really transformed this part of her home from what was a plain old living room into a splash of color and vitality to match her equally bright personality.
That’s the great thing about fabric upholstered club chairs. They come in such a wide variety of colors and in such amazing fabrics ranging from supple micro-suedes to soft cottons and polyester that finding the right one(s), like my mother-in-law, is so easy you will be surprised you hadn’t made the decision to incorporate them in your home before.
